Flange forging begins with heating a metal billet to a precise temperature (hot forging) or working it at room temperature (cold forging). The billet is then pressed or hammered into a die to form the flange shape. Secondary operations such as CNC machining, heat treating, and surface finishing are applied afterward to achieve final dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

Flanges are commonly manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper. Carbon steel offers cost efficiency for general industrial use, while stainless steel provides corrosion resistance for oil & gas and chemical environments. Aluminum is preferred where weight reduction is critical, and copper is used in plumbing and electrical applications. A-SPARK Manufacturing offers all four alloy options.

Flanges can be either forged or cast, but forged flanges are strongly preferred in high-pressure and safety-critical applications. The forging process aligns the metal's grain structure, resulting in higher tensile strength, better impact resistance, and improved reliability under cyclic loading.
